$12 in raw materials

Skilled labor @ $10 for a minimum of 10 hours + Manufacturer markup + Retail markup = $300-400 bike. The aluminum in a cheap bike isn’t much more. It is cool that he make one for himself, though. Good for do it yourselfers. The world will soon have a couple dozen of these.

INC Magazine

As impressive as making his idea work was, some of the business figures behind the project are as worth noting. Gafni estimates that the cost of the raw materials for a bike would be between $9 and $12, with a likely selling price of between $60 and $90 to the consumer. Time for a little extrapolation. You could double the high end of materials costs to get $24, which could be a distribution price. Double it again and you’ve got $48 to a store. If Gafni is right about the retail price range, that’s a minimum of a 25% mark-up,… Read more »

FYI (that means: for your information):

When people say “green” these days they most likely don’t mean the color. Rather, that “its environmentally friendly”

question
July 24, 2012 9:22 pm

why does the article say that its green, when in truth its white are they colour blind?
