Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, is one of the most prominent leaders of modern history. Although he is a Rabbi of Chabad, his influence and sphere reaches above and beyond the chassidic movment.
Since he was a small child he was known as gifted and he invested all his energy in his Torah studies. He was educated at the University of Berlin and Sorbonne of Paris.
In 1941 he escaped the holocaust with his wife, Chaya Mushka, and arrived in New York. He immediately launched campaigns for reviving Judaism, building Jewish institutions in the United States and throughout the world. He worked to strengthen Jewish values through his 10 “Mivtzoim” campaigns throughout the world, starting with Tefillin and Ahavas Yisroel, and the last one, the “Moshiach” campaign. His universal work was widely praised, so much so that the President of the United States declared his birthday as National Education Day.
The medallion is silver, the front featuring the Rebbe’s face, and the back with a common design for the rest of the series, describing the holiness and wisdom of Jewish books, that all sages throughout the generations learn from. The next in the series will be the Rambam and the Chofetz Chaim.
