Ask any parent or teacher how they feel about another semester of online learning, and the look on their face will say it all. They are stressed about learning to use new technology, unsure of how they will connect to the services and worried about the safety of their children on the internet. Fortunately, there is a safe, secure, convenient service for schools to connect students to their lessons and it’s available now through the Fello Distance Learning Program, specially designed for Chassidic schools and Yeshivas.
When the pandemic began, Fello, the leading provider of tech rentals in the event industry, founded by Lubavitchers Zalmy Raskin and Schneur Landa, quickly pivoted to rent technology to schools so they could get students back to learning. Online learning packages included data-enabled iPads with parental controls which could be updated and controlled remotely.
“When online learning first became a thing earlier this year, Fello was able to take what we knew about other industries and quickly apply them to education customers,” says Zalmy Raskin, CEO at Fello.
Between March and June, Fello put thousands of data-enabled iPads directly into the hands of students across the country so they could continue their learning throughout the Spring while in person classes were shut down.
“Although this was a first experiment for all involved, the Fello team adapted very quickly and professionally, they modified to accommodate all of our needs…,” said Rabbi Levi Nejar, Dean of Yeshivas Lubavitch Baltimore. “With the amount of knowledge and experience they have amassed in the past few months they should be by far the number one source for any Yeshivah need.”
Now, as many states remain closed and the country struggles to build back-to-school plans in the midst of the pandemic, Fello has taken their Distance Learning Program to the next level. Online learning packages are turn-key with everything a student needs to get connected to their classes, which is critical, especially for schools that do not have the technical team in place to manage the process. The rental model basically allows Fello to become an extension of the school, configuring iPads, drop shipping devices directly to students, providing phone support, remotely managing application updates and even replacing damaged devices throughout the year.
“We considered purchasing iPads to give to our students but we still needed security, setup, phone support and damage replacement that Fello does seamlessly,” said Rabbi Baruch Zaltzman, Dean of Mesivtah Ohr Temimim in Toronto, Canada. “In the end, setting up an online learning platform is not as easy as just buying tablets. We’re grateful that our students and faculty were able to rely on Fello to handle all of this for us. The service was second to none, quick and all Fello’s employees are extremely courteous on every call and with every request.”
The ability to manage devices remotely is one of the biggest advantages of working with a company like Fello. This allows the school to send updates directly to each tablet, monitor activity and ensure the right controls are in place to keep students safe while using the internet.
According to Schneur Landa, Co-Founder & Director of Strategic Partnerships at Fello, “This time around, we’ll be bringing everything we’ve learned in education device management to the table. We have consulted with leading IT security experts in the field to ensure devices are securely filtered and locked, and we are working on establishing a funding service that can assist schools in identifying grant opportunities and with applying for available dollars to pay for the technology.”
For schools that need a distance learning solution for the Fall, they can speak directly with a Fello Education Consultant to build an estimate and explore funding options. Plus, in an effort to allow schools to minimize risk, Fello will provide a full refund for institutions who decide to move forward with in-person learning when orders are placed by September 1, 2020. In addition to their existing rental packages, Fello will offer rent-to-own options for schools that may need to consider a long-term online learning solution.
Fello has also thought about assisting schools that are opening with in person learning and has come up with an innovative Temperature Scanning Kiosk that can efficiently check students and visitors to a school building to ensure they don’t have an elevated temperature. Using this machine means Schools can eliminate the need to hire someone to manually do temperature checks, and also ensures that social distancing guidelines can be adhered to.
These kiosks can be rented or purchased, and Fello has payment plans that can fit any budget.
“In short, there’s no way to lose,” said Raskin.
