AA and AN are programs based on Christian principles and one should ask a Rov it is permissible to participate.

before you make such a blatant blanket statement make sure it is accurate. these programs have saved lives, families and homes. your one comment can push someone away from getting life saving help. use your words wisely.

Chabad.org has a whole section on it. The kinnus a few years ago had AA speakers. R’Twerski, R’Taub etc. I think the shaila has been asked and the answer quite clear. (There is truth in the fact that the founder of AA was introduced to a faith based 7 step program but he rejected it because of the lehavdil religious beliefs those people had)

They are not Christian principles. They are spiritual principles all which are inline with Torah. There is no religion offered or promoted at 12 step meetings. That is actually one of the guideless they follow.

There is a book “G-D of our understanding” written by R’ Shais Taub, which proves the 12 steps are not only, NOT cristian believes, but rather it is 100% in sync with Torah and even Chassicdus.

Wasn’t the question regarding SUSPICIONS of drug use? This well meaning article responds as if it is a done deal-that the teen is using. The suggestions prematurely jump into treatment considerations, however well intentioned. . These do not address HOW the parents should handle their concern or worries about their kid’s potential use. Asking a teen to tell you about their friends’ activities is overly naive and highly unlikely. Especially if they are also involved in experimenting or using themselves.
