Former IDF chief of staff Lt.-Gen. (ret.) Gabi Ashkenazi joined his new business partner in a visit to Chabad of Midtown Manhattan’s 57th Street branch on Monday.
Ashkenazi was appointed chairman of the board of Shemen Oil and Gas Exploration, an oil-searching company. Among its stakeholders is R’ Chaim Yankel Lebovits, a Lubavitcher chossid.
The new partners were in New York for a whirlwind tour, introducing the company which is in the headlines for a groundbreaking oil discovery off the coast of Ashdod.
They sat down for lunch at Chabad, hosted by Midtown Head Shliach Rabbi Yehoshua Metzger and attended by Rabbis Shneur Lifshitz, Noach Heber, Levi Shmotkin and Binyamin Dubroff.
Metzger and Lebovits, owner of ACC Holdings, are long-time friends, ever since the latter was a confidant of a mutual friend – Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Aharonov, Chairman of Lubavitch Youth Organization (Tzach) in Israel.
Originally from New York, Lebovits moved to Israel and now resides in Jerusalem. He launched his own private companies in 2005. ACC Holdings controls three subsidiaries: Shemen Petroleum and Gas Explorations, ACC Resources and ACCBT.
The Chabad Shluchim wished Ashkenazi and Lebovits much success in their new venture.
