I was born and bred in Crown Heights. I grew up here, attended the schools, shopped at local stores, and spent my shabbosim and yomim tovim in 770.
Growing up in this community has given me a lot of insight into what I love about it, and what I would like to change if I could. When I got married and started having children of my own, I looked around and saw things with new eyes.
There are so many things that I have benefited from in my upbringing here in Crown Heights, yet I wanted something more for my children when it came to education. I wanted a place that would see my child for the individual that they are, and not necessary for what they can do. I valued the idea of being part of a group and a “whole”, but I also wanted that my child should be seen and nurtured as themself and the special person Hashem made them, not just at home.
In addition to that, I wanted my child to love going to school. I wanted them to feel yiddishkeit and chassidishkeit and connect what they learn with their day-to-day actions; to really internalize the beauty of chassidus and value middos, not just in theory.
With the help of Hashem, we have found Gan Academy. Our son and daughter come home with a sense of self, and pride in who they are and what they learn. They are insightful, kind, caring and look out for their friends. Their learning encompasses all they need to know in kodesh, chol and social emotional education. They are mainstream and blossoming Lubavitcher kids with a bright future ahead of them.
Thank you to Gan Academy for providing our children with a school that takes a holistic approach to chinuch and implements it with a dedication to each student that is unprecedented!
– a grateful parent
