Thank you for sharing a message in a positive and eloquent manner.

I feel for you being concerned about your pre existing conditions. However, your argument is not rooted in science but fear and propaganda. A mask will only prevent herd immunity. Nothing more, nothing less. What you need is for the younger healthy people to actually catch it and build immunity. Others will then develop t cell immunity. Buts let’s start with the fact that the PCR test used to test for Covid are also not scientifically sound. In fact, the virus has never been purified or isolated. Here’s a link, but I’m sure you won’t read it. https://off-guardian.org/2020/06/27/covid19-pcr-tests-are-scientifically-meaningless/ Let me… Read more »

Even mild cases of covid can cause long lasting complications and damage to various parts of the body. I know this first hand as do many others. And we don’t yet have the full picture due to the novelty of this virus.

Your mask is useless against the virus. It doesn’t even protect against dust which is a far larger partical. All it does is compromises your health. It is interesting to note how the mask mandates were implented only after the corona numbers were plunging already.

So how would it feel if you were told- breathing difficulties with a mask? So stay home!? As many stores out of CH keep to – no mask, no entry. That would mean you’d need to stay at home and not shop!! That’s what it feels like for older people who are stuck at home and can’t go into a store!!

This isn’t totally accurate. I am the first to get on businesses for not enforcing mask rules. But lately I have noticed that some businesses have gotten better about it. And people are wearing masks more in the grocery store. And one hosiery store does have a very strict mask policy (I shop there.) Yes, some businesses I walk in and I walk right out cause the employees and/or the customers aren’t wearing masks. But we have to give credit and praise to our businesses that are doing the mask thing. And there are some.

Science does not support your claim. You are being lied to. No one is hurting you. You are hurting yourself by wearing the mask. It strains your oxygen intake and touching it brings the virus that sits on any surface to your face. It also lowers your immune system so if you do catch it you’re at a much higher risk.

How do shules hold kiddushim and other events, without a care in the world. Have we forgotten the… Read more »

We almost all had it. There’s herd immunity at this point. So wear a mask when your indoors with a lot of people or if you go out of town but in the street is fine

Somehow 770 has been open for weeks and no one has gotten sick. According to your logic how is that possible? Maybe it’s because everyone is healthy and therefore can’t spread the disease?

I know many ppl with compromised immune systems, diabetes, obesity, old age, etc that got the virus, took hydroxychloroquine and zinc and are walking around just fine. The narrative that a mask will do the trick is such a false narrative and a false sense of protection. Social distancing is the best prevention but that’s up to each individual. We need to stop shaming and imposing mask mandates on people. Let everyone make their own choice. There are many respected docs who say masks don’t work. So let’s not make this black and white. Live your life and let others… Read more »

You do you and stay locked up until the vaccine. I’m going to live my life especially being that I had it months ago

August 14, 2020 11:26 am

Thank you for your post, writtten with such refinement. I am in the same situation as you are. I cannot understand why the beautiful residents of Crown Heights don’t get that at least 30% of us have not had coronavirus. Many of us are older and have health conditions, and are at extremely severe risk. Masks are only one part of the total package of avoiding coronavirus. All the scientific experts agree that if everyone in the USA was careful about coronavirus–social distancing, not being in crowded environments especially not inside where there is no ventilation, wearing masks when you… Read more »

All the protesting wo masks and social distancing did not increase number of cases. Please tnink people.

Move to California
August 14, 2020 11:49 am

Is this a real story? A real old lady writing this letter? Or maybe potentially some random democrat in crown heights (if that exists) who is pro masks and what’s to get their word out there that everyone should wear masks and This is the only way they’d Be heard?

Wtvr the case , move to California. Masks are mandatory everywhere.

Mask or no mask, stay inside.
August 14, 2020 11:54 am

An interesting observation, I read recently an article of a couple who were extremely careful about wearing masks, gloves, and using all kinds of sanitizer. Shockingly they somehow got the virus regardless of all their efforts. It’s unclear exactly how this virus moves around, and how long it lasts, but it may be the right thing for you to stay inside regardless of people wearing or not wearing masks…

If the people they were around didn’t wear masks they could still get it. Masks offer only limited protection for the wearer. That is why it’s incumbent upon all of us to do the right thing and wear masks to protect those around us.

You can go shopping

The only thing holding you back is your belief in the media’s propaganda. If masks are so important, how come no one in crown heights has gotten sick in months? Why aren’t cases spiking back up, and causing large number of deaths (c”v)? Use your brain and statistics instead of news channels for your information

Mask or no mask, stay inside.

Those who say “Chillul Lubavitch” and “it’s only CH” that’s not being careful. Just saying you’ve been in a bubble – plenty other neighborhoods who aren’t careful about masks, and time will tell if it helped at all. I apologize in advance for not adhering to your beliefs in masks. I wore one up until I had antibodies. Currently there is ZERO known cases WORLDWIDE of someone who tested positive and then negative (even if they after tested positive), or with antibodies and then testing positive (dubious of how many real cases of this happening) passing the virus onto someone… Read more »

August 14, 2020 12:07 pm

In the beginning a lot of media was causing people to have the virus in their minds more then in reality. I did walk in the street and hear a young boy endlessly repeat “corna corna you have corna.” (That doesn’t mean to say that the virus was not a lot here then) but my point is people shouldn’t go around with the mindset like certain people did when they came out of the holocaust, but there minds are, till today in the holocaust. Take the precaution by wearing a mask but try to first go for a walk on… Read more »

Masks are not necessary
August 14, 2020 2:14 pm

In NYC, especially Crown Heights people currently infected with Covid-19 is almost zero. So since I am healthy and I know that I do not have Covid-19, what exactly is my wearing a mask or social distancing protecting you from? Would you wear a mask if you were the only one in your car? I assume no, because there’s no point. Well there’s no point in having healthy people wear masks in a store either. If they had Covid-19, they would be home.

Wrong about case numbers.

There were 2,281 NEW Covid cases in New York City this past week. That’s about 325 cases a day. How is that zero?

NYC has millions of people.

Yes, 325/day out of millions of people.

Positive tests are inaccurate

A neighbor’s nasal swab came out positive but the more accurate blood test came back negative. The numbers of cases are highly inaccurate and are being used to scare the living daylight out of people. Some tests show positive when in touch with dead viral particals from months ago. We are being mislead by the politicians and ‘experts’ who have a financial incentive to prolong the fear and push for treatment that they will profit from.

Beautifully written and compassionate article, succinct and to the point. I pray for your miracle and that soon you can go out and about. For all the people who say they can’t breath or it is bothersome to wear a mask, do you mind it when your surgeon wears a mask? I am sure it is hard to stand there for hours on end trying to save your life while breathing through it. Do you tell your dentist, “oh don’t bother, I know it is annoying to wear it as you stand over me” if it’s good enough them laboring… Read more »

Masks aren’t reliable enough and if everyone wore them it would give you a false sense of security.

Hmmm
August 15, 2020 9:33 pm

So does that mean you go to trader joe and shop rite? Sounds like you don’t which means it doesn’t have to do with the masks at all. You are still fearful. Not sure what your solution is but it definitely shouldn’t be pointing fingers at others.

The Rebbe was a man of science .I think he would be very grieved that many yidden are turning to the soothsayers and the cultist of the time . I CHOOSE to stay home because I am older , I have breathing problems and it was enough to convince the NYCDOE that I could work from home. Truthfully I am more afraid of the adults who choose to disregard the health of others than I am of the children. Life isn’t fair
August 16, 2020 9:04 am

We live in a democracy. People must make the best health choices for themselves & their families. That may be a decision to isolate , wear a mask etc. However, if someone does not have any underlying conditions why should they isolate , wear a mask in the heat or any other restrictions?
It’s unfair? Life isn’t fair. We need to live. We need to work & we need a functioning economy.
In the absence of a vaccine you need herd immunity to allow you to live a normal life & meet me in the shopping isles.

Being home for 6 month is not healthy at all
August 16, 2020 11:12 am

I’ll suggest your kids to take u out for upstate or to the beach to breath healthy air. And walk more … sorry but u are slow killing yourself and your husband by staying home for so long period.
Be healthy, wear a mask and gloves and go out, walk around and be healthy.
Don’t judge CH majority was sick already means less ppl can spread it.
And test yourself might be u had it too without any symptoms because u still has some groceries or other stuff coming to your house.

This is a PANDEMIC! For goodness sake, this virus is deadly! It definitely won’t cost you to take precautions! Yes, we all wan’t to get back to normal; no corona weddings, no masks or gloves, no zoom celebrations, but it’s spreading before you know it! So please! Do more than a favor to your community and also for yourself, the Mitzvah of saving a persons life! Bezras Hashem, this pandemic will end with the coming of Moshiach right now and end this Golus already!!!

Safe, effective early treatment is being suppressed. Useless, tyrannical mandates are being forced. Many needless deaths occurred because of outright negligence and malpractice by the city run hospitals… Just ask the hospital survivors if you want to hear the horror stories they experienced while unable to talk but fully cognitive. Add in the unnecessary deaths of the elderly at the nursing homes because of the governor’s mandate to accept covid infected patients there and you reach the level of premeditated murder.

They are down to $6 for 50pk on ebay, walmart… w free shipping. Face masks provide a false sense of security, but I wear anyway. I get them free. if i had a retail store i would sell them 5/$1,or free for customers. Many simply lost or forgot to bring along or cant afford the dollar for each that is marketed here. ….

The Crown Heights Bais Din stated unequivocally that right now wearing a mask is a mitzvah. Your opinions and feelings on the subject are irrelevant. If you’re not wearing a mask in public you are not following a ruling of the Bais din.
