The tallest Menorah in the mountains, just got bigger!
Every year, Chabad lights up the Catskills with the tallest Menorah, a spectacular event that takes place on Motzei Shabbos of Chanukah at the ShopRite mall in Liberty, NY.
Over the last 20 years, the Catskills has become a bustling hub for Yomim Tovim and holiday weekends, with families flocking to their private summer homes for festive gatherings.
Chanukah is no exception, and this year was truly extraordinary as the mountains filled with an incredible crowd for a weekend of joy and celebration.
At the heart of it all is Rabbi Yossi Hurwitz, the Shliach in Swan Lake and Liberty, who has been leading the Menorah lighting for over 15 years.
This event has become a beloved tradition, drawing widespread attention across the Catskills.
Distinguished guests, including the Mayor, Supervisor, Police Chief, Sheriff, Legislators, and Judges, joined the celebration, alongside local Shluchim such as Rabbis B. Chanowitz and S. Zayantz.
Adding to the electric atmosphere, world-renowned singer Shmuly Hurwitz led the crowd in spirited song and dance, filling the air with the pride and joy of being Jewish. The energy was infectious, with everyone united in celebration.
This year’s Menorah lighting was spectacular, with over 500 people coming together to experience the magic of Chanukah. Guests enjoyed delicious latkes and donuts, while the iconic “gelt drop” from a fire truck delighted the crowd. Children’s faces lit up with joy as they caught toys and $200 in single-dollar bills, creating cherished memories for all.
This unforgettable evening was a powerful reminder of the light, unity, and pride Chanukah brings to our community year after year.
