The World’s Largest Menorah was assembled on Fifth Avenue and 59th Street in New York City with the help of a 40-foot trailer and a huge construction crane.
The 36-foot high, gold colored, 4,000-pound steel structure was designed by world-renowned artist Yaacov Agam. Agam said that the Rebbe wanted this Menorah to be the world’s largest.
Overseeing the building of the Menorah was Rabbi Shmuel Butman, Executive Director of Lubavitch Youth Organization in New York.
He said that when there was talk about making a large Menorah in another city, the Rebbe instructed that the height of that city’s Menorah should be 27 feet.
The Menorah was built on Sunday, a day before a terror attack has shocked Manhattan on Monday. The Menorah will be providing New Yorkers with light and hope, organizers said.
It will be lite nightly with genuine oil lamps and especially designed glass chimneys will protect the Chanukah lights from the Central Park winds.
The first candle will be lit on Tuesday evening, December 12, and the full Menorah will be lit on Tuesday evening December 19. All weekday lightings are at 5:30 PM. Following each night’s Menorah lighting ceremony, hundreds will dance, sing and celebrate.
A shining light👏👍
Freilachen Chanukah!!
