The evening news on Israel’s largest television station, Arutz 2, has shown Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu chatting with Rabbi Chezky Lifshitz, Director of Chabad of Nepal.
Newsreel shows Netanyahu having a friendly conversation with the resourceful Shliach before ordering a salad for lunch at the cafeteria of the Knesset building in Jerusalem, Monday.
Netanyahu came to Israel’s parliament to be voted in as Finance Minister, as reported on the news. Rabbi Lifshitz, however, came with his wife Chani Lifshitz with another agenda.
The Lifshitz couple, known in the Israeli public as the subjects of a TV drama series about their lives on Shlichus in the Far East, were invited to the Knesset to discuss the cooperation between Chabad in Kathmandu and Israel’s Foreign Ministry.
They first met with Tzipi Hotovely, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and reviewed the support Chabad offers to Israeli tourists and security personnel on a daily basis and when tragedy strikes.
With Netanyahu in the building, the Lifshitzs met with his as well, as the Minister of Foreign Affairs (he currently holds 5 cabinet portfolios) to follow up on their conversation with Hotovely.
“I watched closely all your assistance and rescue operations to aid Israelis and the country during time of need,” Netanyahu said and thanked the Shluchim for aiding many during the earthquake that killed over 8,000 people in April 2015.
Rabbi Lifshitz invited Netanyahu and his family to visit Kathmandu and the country’s breathtaking natural scenery.
“I will be happy to do that if I find the chance to do it,” he responded and thanked them again for their life service.
