Chabad of Flamingo in Thornhill, ON, will be hosting an evening titled “a Holocaust story of courage and survival like no other” on Thursday, May 14.
Members and supporters were invited to meet in person Ann Monka and her brother Michael Stoll who cheated death by escaping to the forest during WWII.
For two years they lived with the Bielski Brigade, who saved more than 1,200 Jews from the Nazis. This incredible story was recently documented in the Hollywood blockbuster “Defiance.”
The 2008 war film, set in the eastern regions of German Nazi-occupied Poland (now western Belarus) during World War II, is an adaptation of Nechama Tec‘s book “Defiance: The Bielski Partisans.”
Tec’s book told how Polish Jews came together for common protection and to oppose the German occupation of their homeland.
