The month of Kislev was filled with light, both giving and receiving, at Bais Chana High School in Orange, Connecticut.
Chanukah, with all its activities, was an action-packed week. Whether it was mivtzoim at the mall, visiting old-age homes, assisting preschoolers at a Chanukah fair, creating a fabulous beeswax encaustic art project at an art studio, a Chanukah carnival and auction, or the many wonderful Chanukah parties, students had numerous opportunities to bring light to others while enjoying Chanukah themselves.
Earlier in the month, Yud Tes Kislev was marked at BCA in a most meaningful way. Students participated in a community Hakhel gathering with guest speaker, Rabbi Simon Jacobson. Soul-stirring niggunim, played by the Ben Shimon band, topped off the inspirational evening. During the day, the entire school went to the Ohel after which a delicious seudah was enjoyed at the home of BCA student, Batsheva Lipsker.
Shluchah, Mrs. Vivi Deren, shared ways students could practically internalize Chassidus. In addition, a wonderful program on Chaf Kislev, planned by madricha, Miss Shterny Levitin, gave the girls a greater understanding of the purpose of Chassidus. According to BCA student, Esty Scheiner (Boulder, CO), “Yud Tes Kislev at BCA gave me a new lens through which to view the importance of Chassidus”.
“Strengthening our students’ understanding of Chassidus and then giving the girls hands-on opportunities to live what they learn, is the well-rounded chinuch offered at Bais Chana”, said principal, Mrs. Bluma Hecht. For more information about Bais Chana High School, please call 203-795-5261.
