This year brought events that none of us could have anticipated.
Ever since Purim, things have been touch-and-go. Life as we know it has been up in the air. Our constants, our givens, our daily securities are no longer a guarantee. As a community, we’ve suffered through a collective trauma.
While it’s been difficult, most adults can process these changes.
It’s our children who really struggle.
With the beginning of a new school year, it’s crucial that we take the time to help our children understand and process the events of the past six months and the sudden changes that have shaken up their lives.
A huge part of chinuch includes helping our children get in touch with their mental and emotional health. After this past chaotic period of Covid-19, it’s more critical than ever that we take the time and receive proper guidance in helping our children adjust to the circumstances so that they can continue to learn, adapt, and flourish.
To this end, Neshamos.org has partnered with Ohel Family Services to offer a 2-part series for teachers and educators to help them prepare for the unique challenges of this new school year.
The series, which includes a printable workbook on processing CoronaVirus, is presented by Ohel’s Director of Trauma & Crisis Response Dr. Norman Blumenthal; public school principal Racheli Gross (@CoronaMora) of the Malverne District; Ohel’s Director of Children’s Services Tzivy Reiter, LCSW; and Rabbi David Leibtag, Ohel’s School-Based Services Director.
School teachers and administrators are encouraged to watch the recordings, which can be found below, and download the accompanying workbook.
