Hatzalah volunteers in Crown Heights, who are on the front lines of caring for the community during the coronavirus epidemic, have received a beautiful gift package before Shabbos.
The packages were arranged by local resident Shmuly Kopfstein, with the help of generous donors and Hatzalah volunteers Menachem Freeman, JJ Katz and Zalmy Naparstek, who for the past three weeks, spent hours driving around Crown Heights delivering the gifts to each Hatzalah member in Crown Heights.
Kopfstein has been organizing the Shabbos gifts for three weeks now, as a gesture of appreciation to the volunteers who have been literally risking their own health to care for the ill in our community, taking up to 50 emergency calls a day.
“Each and every member of our community sees the sacrifice of Hatzalah members in the best of times, and now these people are literally sacrificing their lives,” Kopfstein told COLlive. “They knew they were risking their own health and safety, and still they run to help others every single day. They are literally heroes,” he said.
This week, Hatzalah members received an even bigger package than the last few weeks. The gifts include a bouquet of flowers by Chani Greenbaum, a bottle of wine from Eber‘s, a loaf of fish from Raskin‘s, a loaf of bread from Levi Hadad and a Kugel from Dovid Malka.
Kopfstein says that every single community member can do their part to thank Hatzalah.
“We all have someone on our block who is a Hatzalah volunteer. Everyone can buy one bottle of wine or a gift, and add a note and drop it off and say thank you.”
