After 15 years of being the High School of ULY Ocean Parkway, HaMesivta is moving to the Canarsie section in Brooklyn, NY,
HaMesivta has been there for hundreds of students that would not have had a chance anywhere else. It’s a school where the students actually want to be. That has always been their goal and they’ve been achieving it for 15 years.
“We’ve created a one of a kind Yeshiva,” says Rabbi Moshe Lieblich, Menahel of the Yeshiva. “We are the only Yeshiva that can have a very Frum and Chasidishe Bochur learn together with a Bochur struggling with basic Yiddishkeit.”
“When the environment is such that every Bochur feels comfortable and there is good cooperation between the Bochurim and the staff, everyone is inspired to grow,” Rabbi Lieblich says.
“It was a great challenge to have to move, but with every hardship comes a blessing,” Rabbi Lieblich said.
The school has found a building in Canarsie to lease with the option to purchase, which can hold the current student body, and can even help accommodate them doubling in size. The building has a large Shul, classrooms, a kitchen, lunchroom, game room, computer room, offices and 2 basketball courts. It even has the option of eventually opening a dormitory.
Rabbi Levi Tzfasman, Shliach of the Rebbe to Canarsie, is excited to have a Lubavitcher Yeshiva in his community.
“We are looking forward to working together with the Bochurim in the Yeshiva to expand our work and have an even greater effect on the many Yidden living here in Canarsie,” he said.
“This will change the community,” says Rabbi Yosef Serebryanski, President of Anshei Sfard, the building HaMesivta is moving into.
“It is our hope that more Jewish families will move to the community as well,” Rabbi Serebryanski said.
He adds that he is planning on investing in the infrastructure of the Jewish community by building a Mikva, putting up a Kosher Eiruv and other projects, to encourage Jews to move back to Canarsie.
“The last 3 months have been very difficult for my students, being without proper facilities. We are learning in a small shul in Boro Park, eating cereal and milk for breakfast, and pizza for lunch every day,” Rabbi Lieblich says.
“Boruch Hashem, with this new opportunity of moving to Canarsie we will rebuild and grow even stronger.”
Please help make a difference! Please help build and create a foundation so that the next 15 years can and will be even stronger than before.
