Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales, along with his wife, Patricia, hosted a Menorah lighting ceremony at the presidential residence on Monday.
Rabbi Sholom Pelman, Shliach in Guatemala, was invited to lead the ceremony.
In attendance as well were Israel’s Ambassador to Guatemala Mattanya Cohen and other dignitaries, and Mr. Yitzchok Yonatan Michael.
President Morales, whose term as president ends in a few days, made a point to invite Chabad for this year’s Chanukah celebration, “since he said it was important to him to meet with Chabad before his term is up,” Rabbi Pelman told COLlive.
Guatemala was the second country to move its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in May of 2018, days after the US inaugurated its embassy in Jerusalem.
