Rabbi Yaakov and Malkie Raskin and their two children will be heading out on Shlichus to Laramie and Cheyenne, the Wyoming State Capital, on Sunday, Yud Alef Nissan.
The arrival of the new Shluchim was honored by the Governor of Wyoming Mark Gordon, who issued a proclamation honoring Yud Alef Nissan as Education Day, and honoring the work of the Rebbe and the new Shluchim to the state.
The new Shluchim were appointed by Rabbi Zalman and Raizy Mendelsohn, who have been serving as the only shluchim in the State of Wyoming for the past 15 years. The new Shluchim are being brought down as part of the 1,200 new Mosdos that were started in honor of the Rebbe’s 120th birthday.
The new Shluchim will be establishing Chabad of Laramie and Cheyenne, and will be serving the Jewish community there, including faculty and students at the University of Wyoming.
Laramie and Cheyenne have a combined Jewish population of around 600 Jews out of 130,000 total. “When we visited the community, we were impressed by their knowledge and enthusiasm of yiddishkeit. We Look forward to finding more yidden, and to working with the existing community, who are excited for us to come,” Rabbi Raskin said.
The Raskins plan on helping travelers in the area, since Laramie is near a main highway to Denver, and due to the weather gets closed from time to time, leaving passengers stranded for Shabbos.
