Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley, AC QC Governor of New South Wales, visited Our Big Kitchen – A Chabad run Charity organization in Sydney Australia established and run by Shluchim Rabbi Dovid and Laya Slavin.
The Governor was accompanied by her husband Mr Dennis Wilson.
The purpose of the visit was to see and acknowledge the work that Our Big Kitchen has done during this extremely challenging time of Covid-19. The Kitchen sent out thousands of meals a week and supported a big spike in need.
The governor talked about OBK’s Response by pointing out that:
OBK Increased from 80,000 meals a year in 2019 to 250,000 meals in 2021.
OBK currently has 61 charity recipient organizations across NSW.
OBK has over 3,000 registered volunteers
OBK never closed for single day because of Covid.
OBK distributed Meals from Bondi to Byron Bay.
OBK’s Covid response was recognized by media like Living room and current affair, and Chanel 10’s breakfast program
OBK’s Covid response being recognised by Centennial Parklands with a commemorative paver.
Also present were many dignitaries including Federal Member Dave Sharma and the Hon Cr Philip Ruddock AO – former Federal Minister of immigration and presently Mayor of Hornsby Shire Council, State member Dr Marjorie O’Neill MP, State member Scott Farlow MP, State member Ron Hoenig MP and local Govt councillors, Cr Sally Betts Waverley Council, Cr Leon Goltsman Waverley Council,
Cr Daniel Rosenfeld Randwick Council, and Cr Vincent De Luca Warringah Council.
Included were also others who came to say thank you from Ambulance NSW and the Fire department, crime stoppers and others.
