The annual World of Light – Celebration of Chanukah for the Global Financial Institutions and the International Community took place on Tuesday, the 6th night of Chanukah.
This event is hosted at one of the major financial institutions every year, together with American Friends of Lubavitch (Chabad). Practicing strict covid-19 procedures, they gathered this year at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington, DC for a brief program.
Participating in the event were Rabbi Levi Shemtov, Executive Vice President of American Friends of Lubavitch (Chabad), the Hon. David Malpass, President – The World Bank Group, Dr. Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director – International Monetary Fund, and the Hon. Mauricio Claver-Clarone, President, Inter-American Development Bank. The principals of these institutions shared details of their unprecedented programs totaling hundreds of billions of dollars, assisting communities in nearly 100 countries to cope with the pandemic.
The event, which is usually attended by several hundred financiers, diplomats and other members of the international community, was limited to 10 people this year due to covid-19. The program included remarks by the special guests followed by a Menorah lighting, and was streamed live through the World Bank Group Communications system.
