Jewish girls from all over the US and Canada will “UNITE TO IGNITE” at the Jewish Girls Unite Winter Retreat to take place on December 24-27 at the Holiday Inn Express in Latham, NY, for girls of all backgrounds, 8-16 years old.
The unique family atmosphere at the Jewish Girls Retreat is a ‘home away from home’ for many girls around the world. Girls will be traveling from as far away as California, Georgia, Florida, VA. and PA and will be lead by an incredible group of staff.
The retreat is a project of JEWISH GIRLS UNITE, the global (online) community, which unites all Jewish girls from around the world. This year’s winter retreat theme highlights the year of Hakhel – unity, which takes place every seven years when the king of Israel would unite the nation and read the Torah in the Holy Temple. The 2015 theme “Unite to Ignite” focuses on our inner spark that is ignited through unity.
The four days are packed with workshops and activities that foster unity and teamwork such as a talent show, concert, snow tubing, auction, Shabbat from A-Z, inspiring Shabbat program, an arts program that includes choir, drama, dance, fine arts, culinary arts, and more. Each day is filled with moments of self discovery, Jewish pride and meaningful friendships that lasts a lifetime.
In honor of the 10 year anniversary, a NEW inspirational program is open for JGR Alumnae and young women 16-25 years old. The JGU Women’s program will offer workshops in the creative arts, on personal growth, positivity and leadership skills. In addition to a group of incredible counselors and staff, professional speakers and entertainers will be featured in both programs for women and girls. Guests include: Miriam Yerushalmi, Susan Axelrod, Nechama Dina Laber, Rabbi Avraham Laber, Leah Caras, Leah Aliza Lee and others.
In a warm and nurturing environment, every girl is given the tools to shine with confidence by dedicated and caring staff, educators and mentors, [this includes campers, staff members and young women] says director, Nechama Dina Laber. Workshops will include: How can we keep the glow of the Menorah shining year round? What is my unique light [my strengths] and how can I brighten the world? Who can I thank for igniting my spark? How can we foster unity despite our differences? How can we transform darkness into light? How can I help others shine?
“The single most inspiring event of my daughters’ year has been the Jewish Girls Retreat. For a 4 day program, it amazes me how powerful your impact is! I wonder if your staff know how influential they are in my daughters’ lives? There is much I can give to my girls as their mother. But I cannot offer friendship and inspiration like the girls from JGR. That connection is monumental! I don’t say this lightly,” says a JGR mom from Maine.
