As the DHS Homeland Security NSGP (Non-profit Security Grant Program) opens for the coming year, this is an excellent opportunity for schools, shuls and community centers to apply for a highly competitive grant that offers up to $150,000 in funds to harden facilities against terror attacks and hate crimes. Zalman Myer-Smith from the CSO offers guidance on the critical importance of a solid security assessment of your location.
The security assessment identifies the “security health” of your location, where you are weak and strong in the event of a security emergency. We want you to be able to put yourself in the place of an attacker or someone who wishes to breach your location and to understand that weakness and to create an effective proactive response.
The security assessment also helps you validate your weaknesses in applying for security grants and why Federal, state or private agencies should invest in your location for security upgrades. No two security assessments are the same. You can use law enforcement, private security or even a self assessment. This video explains the pros and cons, along with best practices.
