German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier paid a rare visit to the private home of Rabbi Yehudah Teichtal in Berlin to personally express his support and commitment to fighting anti-Semitism.
The personal visit was arranged after Rabbi Teichtal has been insulted and spat on by 2 men as he was heading home from the Chabad synagogue he heads on Friday night.
German police said they were treating the incident as a religiously-motivated crime and are currently looking for suspects, it was reported.
Rabbi Teichtal, Rabbi of the Jewish community in Berlin and Head Shliach of Germany’s capital, was walking past an apartment building in the Wilmersdorf neighborhood Friday night when was spat at and sworn at by two men inside the building.
Teichtal, who said the two men spoke in Arabic, called in a statement for “tolerance, dialogue and training.” A recent study found that anti-Semitism is rampant among Muslim refugees in Germany.
“Many people called me to express their support after the incident where I was unfortunately insulted and where two men spit on me, and it is absolutely unacceptable that such incidents are part of the daily life of the Jews,” the rabbi said on his Facebook page.
During his visit on Sunday, President Walter Steinmeier was warmly welcomed by the Teichtals. He spoke about his support of the Jewish community and was given a U.S. dollar bill that was blessed by the Rebbe.

She’s the fool who allowed one million Muslims to invade Germany. Where did she think that would lead? To tolerance and co- existence?
