The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. welcomes visitors of all races — but not crazes.
The institution is formally asking visitors not to come if their intent is to play the addictive Pokémon Go mobile game within the museum adjacent to the National Mall.
Players of the game have been walking between exhibitions and memorials about the Nazi atrocities while trying to capture or battle virtual “Pikachu” characters on their smartphones.
Released in July 2016, the game blends real life scenes using a camera and a GPS tracking system with animated challenges which the player is prompted to act upon.
“Playing the game is not appropriate in the museum, which is a memorial to the victims of Nazism,” Andrew Hollinger, the museum’s communications director, told the Washington Post. “We are trying to find out if we can get the museum excluded from the game.”
Hollinger stressed that the museum is generally pro-technology and encourages visitors to use social media to share how their experiences with the exhibits moved them. “But this game falls very much outside that,” he told the Post.
Other somber locations which people are concerned about the game being played at are the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York City, Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia and the infamous Nazi death camp in Auschwitz, Poland.

For all those who dont know-
The reason why it was at a holocust museam because the system automaticly generates sculptures, parks and recreational places i dont think it was to do anything in specific it is just automated thing..
Pokemon Go is really impressive. Nonsense has been taken to a whole new level of sophistication.
I think the pokemon game is a wonderful idea. However due to technical problems and lack of common sense, the game is being played where it shouldn’t. I just hope the software developers will be able to fix the problem of bad locations. Play the game and have fun, just don’t do anything insensitive and PAY ATTENTION to your surroundings. 🙂
Is there nothing sacred in this world? Apparently not! So disrespectful. We’re so hooked on some of the nonsense out there, that nothing and no place is off limits.
I totally agree with this Article. No one should be doing anything on their phones at a Holocaust Museum or any other Memorials. If someone planned to be on their phone/electronic device while at the Museum, they shouldn’t have come in the 1st place! They can go outside and text their friends. If it’s something important they can go somewhere quiet like the bathroom, and do it there. But it is so disrespectful to play Pokeman, etc in these types of places.
the app just came out and ppl already died from it
why would people even play that game!? How can people steep so low! Especially in a holocaust museum? what u payed to go around a museum to find these dumb pokemon players? U serious?
Make an appropriate scary game app that is ok to play within the museum.
Is finally making people go outside. It’s great. I know someone that walked 9 miles yesterday due to the game. Would never have done that otherwise!
