The annual gala dinner benefiting Chabad of Thailand will be held on Wednesday evening in Israel, saluting their year-round work serving Israeli backpackers and Jewish business people visiting the Far East.
Headlining the celebration will be musicians Avi Piamenta, Yoni Schlomo, Meilech Kohn, Adi Gibson, the Yasis men’s choir and Yoni Eliav and his orchestra.
The event is expected to draw hundreds of people from all walks of life who have been welcomed through the doors of Chabad in Bangkok and other Chabad centers during their travels in Thailand.
But notably missing from the event will be the Shluchim themselves. A quarantine order has been imposed in recent days on those returning from Thailand due to the Coronavirus.
Thailand reported 3 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, taking total infections to 40, Reuters reported. The local health ministry criticized patients for not disclosing their travel history.
To have the Shluchim participate nevertheless, producers of the Chabad dinner are planning to have Rabbi Yosef Chaim Kantor and Rabbi Nechemia Wilhelm emcee the event via a live broadcast from Bangkok.
Another event of Chabad of Bangkok was planned for this Sunday, bringing together former backpackers. “It has been over 20 years that we meet each year with the wider family of former visitors,” Rabbi Wilhelm said.
“This year, because of the Coronavirus scare we will have to cancel this event,” he said. “We hope that this strange situation passes quickly and we will be able to return to normalcy as soon as possible.”
Totally given over to their Shlichus. Chasidishe and practice Shluchim.
Hatzlacha with everything.
They must be suffering from almost no revenue in their restaurants due to lack of tourism.. maybe there can be a link for donations added?
