ADIOS NEW YORK
Music star Gad Elbaz just returned from a concert tour in Panama and Argentina, but it is the New York scene where he was most visible recently after moving from Israel.
But after a year and a half in the Big Apple, Elbaz is moving to another US hotspot: Miami Beach, Florida.
“Bye New York, it was 1 year and 4 months,” he wrote on social media. “I was happy to start my journey in gathering the sparks through music in here… Miami here I come to continue my #LchaimTour to make great music together with an amazing producers @rudyperezmusic and more. We can achieve all our dreams if we just work hard and keep on believing in God and in ourselves.”
After landing in Florida, Elbaz already had his first gig: Singing at the opening of a new shul in Aventura Isles led by Rabbi Yistchak Kaplan. “To many more events like this,” Elbaz told the crowd.
A SONG FOR THE REBBE
As a Jewish singer/songwriter and chossid, Nosson Zand learned to channel the ups and downs of life into art – in an attempt to inspire others in a way that inspires himself.
Zand got married this week in Crown Heights. “As I reflect on the journey that has brought me to this happy occasion, I become highly aware of how the Rebbe, chassidus and Chabad, in general, has truly been a life-saver, not only for me but for countless others,” he told us.
Before the wedding, he recorded a tribute song to the Rebbe in honor of Gimmel Tammuz.
A SONG FOR TORAH
At the recent event of the Achvas Torah organization, singer Zanvil Weinberger collaborated with the Malchus Choir and the orchestra of Yanky Rubin.
Together they sand Yomam Valayla, a song expressing a love for learning Torah and running through many of the staple seforim such as Mishna, Gamara, Rambam and many their commentators.
A SONG FOR THE NEWBORNS
French-born singer Yoni Shlomo also had exciting changes in his life. He recently moved with his family to Israel and his wife recently gave birth to twin girls.
To celebrate the occasion, Yoni went to the studio to record an old song that he composed together with Moshe Laufer. For some reason, the song was never released and Yoni felt this would be an appropriate opportunity.
The song, sung with the Yedidim Choir, is based on the teaching of the Alter Rebbe in the Tanya (Igeres Hakodesh, Perek 11) that “No evil descends from above,” and everything is good.
UPDATING CHABAD, YIDDISH TUNES
Giving a taste of their unique folk-rock interpretation, the Rogers Park band released an audio sampler of their coming album.
“After releasing our debut album of original Hassidic music in English, we wanted to give a tribute to Lubavitch,” says Mordy Kurtz of Rogers Park Band. “We decided to dedicate our second album to the Chabad Shluchim around the world who are doing tremendous work in bringing Moshiach.”
Rogers Park 2nd studio album – “Petersburg” is a mix of Chabad Niggunim and Yiddish songs and is slated for release later this summer on July 23rd.
