Financially strapped Jewish families in Crown Heights have received generous support ahead of the 8 day Pesach holiday.
Some $60,000 in groceries, including 350 cases of chicken, 12 cases of Cornish hen, 400 pieces of flounder and 80 cases of gefilte fish were distributed this week by the Yomtov fund, a local charity which helps individuals and families year-round.
Those coming out last week to receive the goods for Pesach were met by the warm and welcoming arm of Mrs. Devora Scheiner who runs the fund out of her home on Montgomery Street.
The group of over 200 people enjoyed a full delicious breakfast of doughnuts, bagels, tuna and salmon spread, cheeses, juice and cereal.
Mrs. Scheiner made a speech in which she dedicated the event to the memory of Mrs. Miriam Slater, R’ Bezalel Jacobson, the Sassoon children, Ita and Efraim Fishel Scheiner and Miriam and Yehuda Leib Gordon.
Scheiner credited her parents, Miriam bas Yaakov Eliyahu and Yehuda Leib ben Zalman Dov Gordon, who were involved in many charities, for setting her on the path to doing Chesed in the community.
Funds are still desperately needed to support families in our community. Donate today to the Yomtov Fund.

Sending you Brocho V’hatzlocho, and ‘refuah Shleima as well
Devorah continues to wow us with her mitzvos from beginning to end! One arrives to a beautiful layden scrumptious breakfast table full of hot fresh bagels, danishes, cheeses, lox spreads and cream cheese, yogurts, orange juice, water bottles and sprinkeled doughnuts for the kids – always aiming to make everybody happy young and old alike. One then proceeds to free cheese and dairy then off to gather your fish – flounder and gefilta rolls this year and then to the poultry cases. If this doesn’t make for the start of a truly happy healthy yontif, then what does?!? Devorah, b’zechus… Read more »
For those who missed it, is there another food distribution for pesach food?
