Financially strapped Jewish families in Crown Heights have received generous support ahead of the 8 day Pesach holiday.
Some $50,000 in groceries were distributed this week by the yomtov fund, a local charity which helps individuals and families year-round.
Those coming out last Thursday morning to receive the goods for Pesach were met by 30 degree-cold weather, but also by the warm and welcoming arm of Devora Scheiner who runs the fund out of her home on Montgomery Street.
A full breakfast spread was set up by Scheiner and her volunteer friends Mesoda Giugue, Leah Gorodetsky, Malka Bayzman, Miriam Simon and Shifra Galperin, with special treats for the children.
Some 400 cases of fresh fish, chicken and meat were given out – and the products that were left went to teachers at the Lubavitcher Yeshiva boys school.
One of the dedicated volunteers to help distribute the much needed items was Batsya Furst, the 13-year-old granddaughter of Scheiner.

I hope the big wealthy families help her she deserves it
I heard from a recipient how b’kovodik Mrs. Scheiner treats those who come for the groceries. Each person is invited to have a good breakfast before they take the groceries home, to take something back to their family from the spread, and especially not made to feel needy. Kol hakovod and how can we donate to this cause?
This is so kind. My g-d bless all those that are a part of this.
