Insights from Toras Reb Levi Yitzchok, a weekly class based on the teachings of Harav Levi Yitzchak Schneerson, chief rabbi of the city of Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine, during the bloody Bolshevik revolution and the subsequent Communist oppression and father of the Rebbe.
The shiur is presented by Rabbi Dovid Dubov, Director of Chabad of Mercer County in Princeton, New Jersey, and author of Yalkut Levi Yitzchok, an anthology of commentaries collected from the works of Harav Levi Yitzchak, of blessed memory.
Organized by Irguntorah.org and aired on community news service COLlive.com.
Parshas Ki Savo:
A novel explanation on the meaning of Tefillin
(דברים כח, י) וראו כל עמי הארץ כי שם ה’ נקרא עליך ויראו ממך.
And all the nations of the land shall see that the name of the Lord is called upon you, and they shall be afraid of you” (Deuteronomy 28:10)
It is taught in a baraita, Rabbi Eliezer the Great says: This is a reference to the תפילין של ראש – (phylacteries of the head), upon which the name of God is written, as they demonstrate to all that the name of God is called upon the Jewish people.
Question: A) What is the connection of תפילין של ראש, to the nations fearing the Jewish people?
B) The connection to ר׳ אליעזר? And why the emphasis הגדול – the GREAT?
