Friendship Circle of West Bloomfield, Michigan, the only Jewish contestant for Chase’s $1 million grant, has presented its “Big Idea” in accordance with the rules.
Their video submission for the Chase Community Giving Contest promises to use the fund to double the size of its revolutionary LifeTown.
The unique village, which gives special needs children a real-life experience, has outgrown its current size as 2,500 kids visit each year.
“We will also recruit more volunteers to develop awareness and transform them to be ambassadors for friendship and inclusion,” they promised.
The Chabad humanitarian organization, which helps people with disabilities from over 80 branches around the globe, was chosen by Facebook members as a top 100 charity in round one.
This national honor guaranteed them a $25,000 grant, and qualified them for round two, where the public votes to award one of the chosen charities a grand prize of $1 million.
As the only Jewish contestant, Friendship Circle faces a huge time restriction as voting begins and ends during Shabbos, VIN News reported.
Although the Friendship Circle serves all people regardless of race, religion and creed, they have struck a chord within the Jewish community.
Director Rabbi Levi Shemtov says he is hopeful that support will carry them far in the Chase Community Giving Challenge.
Round 2 voting runs from January 15th- January 22nd.
