In “Pearls For the Shabbos Table,” a small-sized soft-cover book published this year, what you see is exactly what you get.
Like real life precious pearls, these ideas are compiled from the teachings of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, and condensed into approximately 1500 letters on two pages.
A collection of thoughts on the weekly Torah portions and Jewish festivals, the 158 page book is slated to stir the minds of anyone gathered for a Shabbos or Yom Tov meal.
As written on the back cover, its easy-to-read style is designed to be accessible to children, while its powerful messages are sure to inspire deeper discussion even among the more seasoned scholars.
The fact that the the author is a shliach himself – Rabbi Yosef Y. Alperowitz, Co-director of Chabad Lubavitch of Bournemouth in England, emphasizes that this book is a perfect provider for an off-the-cuff Dvar Torah – on Shlichus or at home.
The thought for Shavuos, for example, begins with quoting the Talmud about the origin of the holiday compared to Pesach and Sukkos, while explaining how Shavuos is the day the physical realm merged with Hashem.

to 4: the Rebbe was a big “fan” of fanfare.
also, the design is very nice. Go Spotlight!
i don’t like to see the title – Torah in a Nut Shell. nut shells are Klipa! this book has a title worthy of the content. as we all know, everyone judges books by their cover… and their title.
Thanks are also due to the publishers at Kehos:
Rabbis Y. Friedman, D. Olidort, A. Vaisfiche, Y. Berkowitz and M. Laine, who do their work quietly without the modern day fanfare.
Keep them coming!
Great book!
It’s a great book, and it belongs in every Jewish home!!!
