Both U.S. President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seem to find common ground on the birthday of the Rebbe and his universal call to invest in education.
Last week, Biden issued a proclamation dedicating Sunday, April 2, 2023 – which is the 11th of Nissan – as Education and Sharing Day USA in honor of the Rebbe. Since 1978, each president calls for increased focus on education, and recognizing the lifelong efforts of the Rebbe for education.
On Sunday, Netanyahu issued a similar declaration for the first time by an Israeli premier. He called the Rebbe, “the giant and spiritual personality of the Jewish nation in our generation in our land and the Diaspora.”
The declaration lauded the Rebbe’s many teachings, outstanding piety, dedication to others and mission to make the world a better place through the knowledge of Torah, practice of Mitzvos and the 7 Nohaide Laws, and unparalleled international network of Chabad institutions.
Netanyahu signed the declaration in honor of the Rebbe’s 121st birthday at his office in Jerusalem in the presence of members of the Beis Din Rabbonei Lubavitch in Israel, headed by Rabbi Yitzchok Yehuda Yaroslavski.
Present was also Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Aharonov, Chairman of Agudas Chassidei Chabad in Israel and the Lubavitch Youth Organization, and others.
Netanyahu had the merit of meeting and corresponding with the Rebbe during his ambassadorship in the United Nations. During the meeting on Sunday, he fondly recalled the empowering message of the Rebbe to shine the light of truth during dark times.
