After a years-long effort spearheaded by Rabbi Schneur Oirechman, Shliach to Tallahassee, Florida and a close friend of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, along with Rabbi Yossi Denburg, Shliach in Boca Raton, and a group of Florida Shluchim, the governor signed legislation mandating a Moment of Silence.
This legislation requires every school in the state to begin each day with one to two minutes of silence.
The event took place at The Shul of Bal Harbour, headed by Rabbi Sholom and Chani Lipskar, who attended the event. With many Jewish leaders participating, including Mr. Simon Falic and Bal Harbour Mayor Gabe Groisman, Rabbi Oirechman looked on as the governor signed the legislation which passed the Florida House and Senate during the last session. Also present were the legislators active in passing the bill, including State Senators Jason Pizzo and Dennis Baxley, as well as State Representatives Randy Fine and Mike Caruso.
The governor also took the opportunity to sign legislation helping significantly enable more efficient operation of Hatzalah in the state.
Rabbi Oirechman is a beloved and non-partisan figure in Tallahassee, helping to bring the Rebbe’s message to the government leaders, community and Jewish students alike in the capital of the Sunshine State.
“I am delighted that on this day, right after the holy day of Gimmel Tammuz, the governor of our state signed two bills, one helping save people physically and the other which will hopefully help children and their families spiritually, without specific religious requirements,” said Rabbi Oirechman.
There is still much work that needs to be done to accomplish this gift for the Rebbe and publicize it to the world.
