With just a week to go, a diverse and passionate group of community leaders in South Florida are coming together for a massive-scale event that is the first of its kind.
A place that is often jokingly called “the new Crown Heights,” South Florida is rising to the occasion when it comes to Yud Aleph Nissan plans. Promising to be the biggest Chabad event held in Florida to date, all the different local communities are already uniting in preparation for next Wednesday’s historic celebration of the Rebbe’s birthday.
This week, representatives from 18 anash communities in South Florida got together over a Zoom meeting opened up by Rabbi Benjy Korf, Dean of LEC. Together, these leaders make up the dynamic team that is galvanizing their respective communities and uniting the entire Chabad of South Florida. “It’s something that’s never been done before,” says Rabbi Benjy Korf.
The meeting continued with updates on the event presented by Rabbi Ruvi New, Director of Chabad of East Boca. The event will feature the highest quality producers, powerful and interactive multimedia, and performances by top talent—including a stirring address by Rabbi Yossi Jacobson and live musical performances by singer Shulem Lemmer and chazzan Shlomo Simcha.
“Our goal is to recreate the heimishe atmosphere and warm spirit of a true Chassidishe farbrengen, but do so in a way that keeps the audience on their toes the entire time,” says Rabbi Yisroel Spalter, Director of Chabad of Weston, Florida. Along with a team of dedicated shluchim and anash, he will be working around the clock over the next week to execute every last detail of the night.
The program will include sichos of the Rebbe and beautiful brand-new videos created by JEM. At the end of the night, the goal is for everyone to leave inspired, ready to take on a practical hachlata to gift the Rebbe something in honor of his 120th birthday.
“The support for this event from every single Anash community was unanimous from the start,” says Rabbi Yosef Y. Biston, Director of Chabad Lubavitch of North Broward and South Palm Beach. “The achdus among Chassidim even just leading up to Yud Aleph Nissan has been truly heart-warming.” Open to men and women, the venue has space to host over 3,000 people—targeting every single Lubavitcher living in the area.
The event will take place at the City Center Pembroke Pines state-of-the-art facility. Tickets are generously discounted to $18 for general admission and free for all students 6th grade and up.
At last night’s planning session, the momentum was clearly building, Rabbi Yoel Gancz, Director of Chabad West Palm Beach, Florida, says. “It is no doubt that our participation in this milestone, as one family, will bring the Rebbe’s truest vision to life once and for all—when we can all be together celebrating Yud Aleph Nissan in Yerushalayim.”
