Chabad of Tallahassee and Florida State University was busy with running activities and outreach in honor of Purim in all branches under its purview: Outreach in the Capitol, on the Florida State Campus and within the Tallahassee community.
In honor of Purim, Rabbi Schneur Z. Oirechman delivered the opening prayer at the Florida House of Representatives on Wednesday Erev Purim and at the Florida Senate on Friday, Shushan Purim.
Rabbi Oirechman received a community service award from Jewish house members for all of the work Chabad of Tallahassee and FSU has been doing for the past 18 years.
In light of the school shooting in Parkland, Rabbi Oirechman focused his prayer on the Moment of Silence and its importance in all schools. Special outreach was done in the Capitol to bring the Rebbe’s message on how crucial Moment of Silence is to implement in Florida and nationwide.
Purim Lunch and Megillah reading was held at the Capitol for legislators, Jewish lobbyists and Capitol Jewish staff.
In partnering with The Jewish caucus (and its chairman Rep. Richard Stark), and Florida’s chapter of ‘Chesed Shel Emes’ (and its executive director Mark Rosenberg), Chabad of Tallahassee delivered Hamantaschen and Purim guides to Governor Rick Scott, Lt Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera, cabinet members, state agencies and all members of the Florida House and Senate.
There were a number of Megillah readings for university students on campus and a Purim bowling party. There were community readings along with a Purim party and a strong presence on campus for Erev Purim and Purim day. Hundreds of Mishloach Manos were delivered and students got the opportunity to give ‘Matanos L’evyonim’. These programs were led by students along with three Bochurim who flew in from New York to spend Purim and Shabbos in Tallahassee to help with all of the Purim activities.
Chabad in Tallahassee was successful in reaching hundreds of Yidden and members of government in its Purim endeavors and will with G-d’s help continue to grow and succeed with the Rebbe’s Brachos.
Very relieved to hear that he is using his influence to promote Moment of Silence, and hopefully also the Noahide Laws!
Keep up the good work! May G-d bless you to be very successful to bring Geulah to Florida! http://www.noahide.org
