Refoel Donat learns in Yeshiva Torah Temimah in Flatbush. He joined the International Chidon Sefer Hamitzvos when he learned from a friend how exciting it is to be part of the contest with the learning, trips and awards.
He was the only student in his school that was part of this year’s chidon. “He did really well,” organizers noted.
His mother wanted to celebrate her son’s achievements and invited the children from both fifth grades to her home for a special pizza party to watch the Chidon game show.
Tens of children joined the party and had a great time. “They were proud of Refoel,” an organizer said. “What’s more important is that they now want to join Chidon as well.
Presenting Refoel with his plaque at the Yeshivah were the Menahel Rabbi Eliyahu Kaufman, teacher Rabbi Shmuel Milstein and Rabbi Yoseph Vigler, Director of Mayan Yisroel in Avenue N. He also received a personalized leather-bound Sefer Hamitzvos
“Refoel is a trailblazer,” noted one of the Chidon’s organizers. “It’s because of people like him, the Chidon has grown so much. Refoel is now challenging the other chayolim to see who can get the most children in the world to sign up.”
