A fire broke out in a building in Crown Heights on Friday morning, destroying multiple apartments including that of a Lubavitcher family.
Firefighters said the fire broke out on the roof of 1625 President Street at approximately 7:30 am, which spread through the ceilings into at least 4 apartments.
2 apartments were completely destroyed, one of which is the home of Yoni Yechezkeli and his family.
The Yechezkeli family is currently staying with friends, and will be heading to relatives for Shabbos.
“The family does not have any reserves,” Yosef Lewis, a friend of the displaced family, told COLlive. “They were left with the clothes on their backs.”
A fund has been set up to help the family get back on their feet.
“Please help as much as you can. This is true Tzedeka and a zchus,” Lewis said.

On another note, people who rent should always take out renters insurance. It’s about $250 a year but it covers you for theft or fire.
