Fingerprints, a charity fund, was instituted in Melbourne, Australia in early June of 2010, only a few months after the tragic passing of a young man, Nosson Nota Deitsch obm.
The goal of the fund is to raise $88,000 to buy and donate an ambulance in the Deitsch brothers’ memory, which will be donated to Magen David Adom.
The charity fund was started by Nechama Cowen of Melbourne, Australia, and a student at Beth Rivkah Ladies College.
“I don’t know the Deitsch family personally, but I was deeply affected by the tragedy,” she says.
“Nosson’s death was an unforgettable loss to those who knew him, and left a deep impression on those who he had not yet begun to know,” she said. “It takes a unique soul and an individual personality to be able to impact the hundreds, if not thousands of lives that Nosson managed to affect in his short life.”
Nosson was a man of incredible enthusiasm, a man of genuine warmth and love, he emanated positivity and walked with G-d. Yet those who are great and cherished in the Heavenly worlds are only given to us for a limited time because G-d knows that what usually takes a man 80-90 years to achieve Nosson could achieve in 2 decades.
Soon after Nosson’s passing, once more tragedy struck with the passing of his brother, Rabbi Levi Yitzchok Deitsch obm, a Shliach in Tyson’s Corner, VA, after a long and courageous battle with illness at the age of 34. Another gem, another spark of greatness was grabbed away.
Rabbi Levi, as he was affectionately known by his community and friends was a light and a leader. He inspired hundreds and was widely known for his personal interest and concern for every single person he would meet.
“Fingerprints was created to act as a balm to our burning wounds, to ease the pain and find productivity and positivity behind such a negative event,” says Cowen. “We hope that in the memory of two such wonderful people, this new ambulance will bring hope and safety to others in need.”
