This past Thursday, which was a legal holiday when many parents are not at work, Rabbi Yehoshua Lustig, Principal of Grades 5-6 in Oholei Torah, thought it an excellent day to make an Open Classroom Day, where fathers were invited to actually become talmidim for an hour along side their sons.
The fathers participated in the class, answered questions and worksheets, learned chavarusa with their son and even stayed for recess. Well over 70% of the fathers of sixth grade joined for the gemorah shiur and walked away with a greater understanding of how the classroom works, but more importantly a greater appreciation for the Rebbeim and their teaching methods.
Many fathers were simply amazed at how the classes are interactive and engaging, and how much has changed since they were talmidim, back in the day.
One father was hesitant to join at the beginning, but after the morning class, he quickly realized how much he gained, and how proud his son was that he joined.
Special thanks to Rabbi Zev Weinstein, Rabbi Dovber Blau, Rabbi Yitzchok Klein, and Rabbi Naftoli Minkowitz, who hosted the fathers in their sixth grade classrooms.
Beautiful !!! I think this is an amazing idea and opportunity and I applaud all who are involved in making it happen – Hanhala, teachers and fathers. I’m also sure that every step is taken to make sure that those 30% or so of boys who did not have their father there … It wasn’t because said fathers “did not get the message”, literally and/or figuratively… Only speaking from experience coming from a home where a child was once (a long time ago) told by a Menahel (not specifically from any of the above mentioned Mosdos but clearly in a… Read more »
#5 I think its in the genes. was passed on בירושה from their father and grandfather Reb Avrom Karp Montreal
And #5, thank you for pointing that out!
The icing on the cake is seeing my brother and nephew front and center 🙂
A special mechanech. Dedicated to his students and is always passionate and ibergigeben. We’re lucky to have a teacher like him. My son is Boruch Hashem working very hard and doing very well. Thank you Rabbi Minkowitz
Very nice! Programs like this on different legal holidays happen at Cheder Menachem regularly. I’ve gone to them for my sons in various classes over the years. I even saw that they had one for pre1a fathers on thursday.
Rabbi lustig has transformed the school!!!!!
What a wonderful idea!
We need more opportunity like this
awesome
He is amazing!!! Azoi Ibergegeben. Full of passion and caring for the talmidim. And from what I see it looks like he takes care of his teachers as well. May we have some more like him in Lubavitch!
Young, passionate, creative, dedicated, innovative, caring, coupled with Yirei Shomyaim and chasidishkeit. Chabad has a bright future with these guys and the many more young teachers spread across the chabad schools. The brightest stars in Lubavitch today. Hands down. The amount of talent and hard work these Rabbeim need to come to school every day motivated to inspire, nurture, and teach is on a level altogether different than the skill and work required of almost all of their peers, whether in business or on Shlichus. We owe these guys our gratitude and appreciation. (And a decent, competitive salary, but that’s… Read more »

What an amazing idea. Keep up your good work!
A grateful parent!
Thank you to all those parents who took the opportunity I to live demonstrate to their children the importance of chinuch. Not one parent is looking at a smartphone. We have a future!
Give credit where the credit is due!
Rabbi Lustig got the idea from his uncle Rabbi Zalman Karp from ULY Crown who has been doing this with his class for many years.
We are lucky to have teachers like that who go out of their way for our children’s Chinuch.
Thank you R Z Karp for not only improving the Chinuch in ULY, but also improving and caring about our children in the entire neighborhood!
A great idea. Thank you R’ Lustig for your all your effort and dedication!! It is very appreciated.
that is so nice that the fathers came to their sons class!
your class is very interesting
