After more than three decades of serving the community, Fashion Queen, a longtime clothing boutique selling stylish, fashionable and modest clothing in Crown Heights, has announced that it will be closing its doors.
“We are saying farewell with gratitude and joy for a beautiful journey,” Esther Chein, the founder of Fashion Queen, told COLlive.
The store, which began in a humble basement over 35 years ago, grew into a beloved local staple located at 331 Kingston Avenue between Union and President Streets, offering generations of women high-quality, modest clothing for special occasions.
“With a passion for quality fashion, I saw a chance to create a business that brought value to our community through high-quality, tznius clothing,” Chein says. “I wanted to make that accessible to other women, to give them a sense of identity and confidence through their clothing choices.”
Throughout its years of operation, Fashion Queen was more than just a store to local women and the many visitors to the community, as a place where women could find elegant and modest options in a warm, welcoming space.
The boutique also served Shluchos and their communities, helping them experience what a tznius-focused store could offer. The store pioneered on-site alterations to ensure perfect fits while maintaining modesty, creating an environment where every customer felt seen and cared for.
“Living up to its name, Fashion Queen strove to make every customer feel like royalty, prioritizing patience, care, and personalized attention,” Chein proudly notes.
As the store closes, customers are being offered one last opportunity to purchase their favorite items at discounted prices, she says.
“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Crown Heights community for their unwavering support over 35 years,” Chein said. “I cherish the memories, relationships, and trust built with customers. It’s been an honor to dress and empower women with modesty and style. Thank you for being part of our Fashion Queen family.”

We will truly miss Inna — she was a gem and always helped find a good fit. Unfortunately, the store’s selection was limited and not well suited for women looking for L/XL sizes or a higher-end range
I’m a size 3x and they always helped me find gorgeous clothes. In fact many of the sale items right now are plus size
They did have large and some xtra large…
I am a regular customer at FQ and really sad to hear they are closing. So friendly and always go out of their way to be helpful. Really going to miss this store and their always friendly staff(:
Kindest warmest people ever
Sad because they were one of the few stores on Kingston that actually had modest clothing
I love that store, they always had really stylish clothes. I really don’t know where l’m to go now.
Dearest Ester, Inna and Faina. You are the best! Thank you for all the memories and great clothes!
As an out of towner I really appreciated being able to find last minute dresses for simchas in Crown Heights. Hatzlacha rabba
Ch needs modest clothing stores, and reasonable prices too please
Almost Everyone thinks of bp for shopping womens clothes, it shouldn’t be this way…
On the other hand, will be nice to have gemachs of people footing the bill when girls or woman wants to dress nicely and not have to break the bank
As a shlucha living out of town, I must admit that over the years I’ve gotten used to friendly, warm, patient customer service . . . where I live. Coming to Crown Heights was always a shock to my system, and I used to explain away the rudeness with telling myself things like, “They’re busier than where I live” or the like. But a few businesses, Fashion Queen amongst them, showed me that caring for the customer can happen ANYWHERE. (Benz’s is another) Thank you for always being kind and helpful, even though I don’t have the biggest name or… Read more »

Anyone know what is going to replace the former location of gombos?
..
The location is replaced with a good high-quality restaurant.
Nah
I guess a pizza store that looks decent will be nice
Always a pleasure to shop there… lovely clothes at reasonable prices. This store will be missed!
Always pleasant and helpful w a smile even if I didn’t find something to buy. Hatzlacha in your next chapter!
Is there a date?
I’m older now but many times as a teenager I went shopping there. The women were extremely kind, helpful and approachable. Actually, they were approaching ME and offering help! Thanks to their help, many times I actually walked out with clothing I was very excited to own. Unfortunately such stellar customer service is a novelty.
It was always a pleasure to shop there. I will always remember the kindness you delivered.
where ppl can buy clothes
What a shame. I frequented Fashion Queen many times over the years we lived in Crown Heights, including when we returned for short visits. They truly adhered to their philosophy of treating everyone like a queen. You will be very missed! Much success in your future endeavors. Be well!
I’ll really miss that store. I always found something there.
please give us a few months notice
This was my favorite CH store!! Always greeted with kindness, eagerness to assist, I really felt they loved their jobs and had joy seeing us feel good about the way we look. They walked the fine line of always showering you with attention yet understanding style, tznius and budget. Hashem should reward you for all your efforts and kindness!!! You will be sorely missed! Such a disappointment. Where do I go now?
The nicest staff every customer treated with so much care ! Whenever I walked in there they were so helpful trying to find what I was looking for ! The owner Esther and her staff Fania and Inna Thank you !
