A spirited Farbrengen in Crown Heights on Shabbos has inspired participants to sponsor subsidized trips to Alma Ata for fellow Chassidim.
During the Farbrengen at Bais Shmuel Chabad, an international crowd was gathered, including Shluchim Rabbi Shaya Cohen of Alma Ata, Kazakhstan, Rabbi Yosef Chaim Kantor of Bangkok, Thailand and Rabbi Mordechai Abergel of Singapore, alongside members of the Bais Shmuel Shul. The farbrengen marked the birthday of Bais Shmuel member Dovid Rogatsky.
During the Farbrengen, participants talked with great excitement of the upcoming spiritual trip for Chof Av, the Yartzeit of the Rebbe’s father, R’ Levi Yitzchok, to his gravesite in Alma Ata, organized by Rogatsky.
The trip this year is set to travel by private plane, which has been chartered with special permission from the Kazakhstan government to take place during covid lockdowns.
During the talk about the trip, many people at the Farbrengen remarked that they would love to take part, however, the costly airfare for the trip by private plane prohibits them from doing so.
During the discussion, donors Shmuli Stern, Dovid Rogatsky and another participant, were inspired to sponsor a number of partially subsidized trips.
The sponsors agreed to subsidize up to $700 per person per trip, for qualified individuals.
