Family and friends of R’ Mendel Brikman OBM, a well-known figure in the Jewish community of Crown Heights, gathered on Wednesday to start a Sefer Torah in his memory.
The Torah was started at his home by local Sofer, Rabbi Yosef Shechter, on Ches Teves on what would have been the 48th birthday of the accomplished businessman, chossid, and someone who took initiative to bring the Rebbe’s directives to life.
He is remembered by all as someone who always had a smile on his face and a kind encouraging word to share. He passed away at the age of 43.
One thing that was particularly close to Mendel’s heart was making sure that the children who came to shul on Simchas Torah had their own Torah to dance with – a tradition his family keeps till this very day.
The new Torah is scheduled to be completed right in time for his yartzeit on Hoshana Rabba.
This coming year not only will the children’s Torah be in his memory, but a Torah with his name on it will dance with everyone in shul, together with Mendel and all of those whom we miss, with the coming of Moshiach speedily in our days.

Amazing to see people coming from all over to celebrate this and honor Mendel Brikmans name!
His son Joe Changed my life. What a great man he must have been.
