Rabbi Shmuel Havlin and his wife Yehudis arrived this week in Hamburg, the second largest city in Germany, where they will serve as Chabad Shluchim.
The Havlins will be working alongside their brother-in-law and sister Rabbi Shlomo and Chana Bistritzky, Directors of Chabad Lubawitch Hamburg, they established 8 years ago.
In song and tears (of joy), their whole family came to the Ben Gurion Airport in Israel Monday to send them off and wish them success.
The number of Shluchim in Germany has more than doubled over the last decade under the leadership of Head Shliach Rabbi Yisroel Diskin of Munich with the support of Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky of Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch.
“The Rambam we are currently learning mentions those who “stand before G-d to serve Him and minister to Him and to know G-d,” noted the proud father, Rabbi Yosef Havlin, rov of the Chabad community in Ramat Shlomo in Jerusalem.
Hamburg’s Jewish community, where Bistritzky is Chief Rabbi, got to know the young Havlin couple from their visits to the city in the past few years.
Shmuel will be running the programs and activities of the Chabad center and Yehudis will be a teacher in the Chabad Hebrew school. They have 2 children – Menachem Mendel and Mordechai.
