If you learn daily Chumash-Rashi you will have new reason to celebrate this Simchas Torah!
Beginning with the upcoming new cycle of Torah study this Simchas Torah, Chayenu is proud to announce the release of a major Chumash Re-Design, with a focus on a smoother user-experience.
Thanks to a generous grant from The David & Eda Schottenstein Foundation, and after many months of planning and fine-tuning, the new Chumash design is being launched in time for Parshas Bereishis.
This innovative, fresh look is much more aesthetically pleasing to the eye, making its study more smooth, focused on the student’s optimum user-experience. The principle followed is that “simpler is better” and ease of use was of primary importance.
Here’s what to look forward to:
The fonts used are more clear, pleasant.
Enhanced spacing of words, lines and paragraphs (including breaking up long Rashis).
Differentiating between Rashi translation and commentary by alternating
between bold (former) and non-bold (latter), rather than italics or brackets.
Eliminating unnecessary duplication of Rashi’s opening (Hebrew) quote, on
the English side.
The placement of Hebrew on the left, English on the right.
Indications which Pesukim in the Chumash have a Rashi comment.
Nikkud (Hebrew vowels) in the English side of Rashi’s quotes of Hebrew.
Adding a daily synopsis at the start of each daily portion (Aliyah), from the Daily Wisdom series.
This is in addition to the existing unique features of:
The Chumash itself translated according to Rashi.
Additional Commentary on Rashi in extensive footnotes.
Targum Onkelos (Aramaic) translation beneath the Pesukim for “Shnayim Mikra vEchad Targum” customarily recited on a Friday afternoon.
Having a Daily Parsha Insight from the Rebbe’s teachings, noted on the side of the Posuk (verse) it explains – from the Daily Wisdom series.
Donor David Schottenstein had this to say about the project:
“My wife Eda is passionate about strengthening Jewish education and the new Chumash format in Chayenu is outstanding and really elevates the level of understanding and comprehension, so dedicating this in her honor seemed very fitting.”
The Margolin Edition is a project spearheaded by brothers Rabbis Binyonim & Kalman Michoel Moore, and published by Feldheim Publishers, who have given Chayenu permission to debut this new Chumash Rashi (still in development).
The Daily Synopsis, preceding each day’s portion, was written by Rabbi Moshe Yaakov Wisnefsky of Chabad House Publications, and is taken from the Daily Wisdom series, produced by Rabbi Chaim Nochum Cunin.
The new design was created by Mendy Angyalfi, who has previously designed many highly acclaimed seforim such as the Gutnick Chumash series, the Back to Basics series and others.
“Studying the daily portion of Chumash with Rashi has never been easier and more meaningful,” says Yossi Pels, Chayenu’s Executive Director. “It’s a perfect time to renew your commitment to this daily practice with increased enthusiasm, or to begin for the first time. We are very grateful to David & Eda Schottenstein for their valued partnership.”
The custom – which is part of “Chitas” – actually dates back to the Alter Rebbe, Rabbi Shneur Zalman, who instituted it, but made famous by the Previous Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneerson, as part of the three-pronged daily-study program of Chitas (Chumash, Tehillim, Tanya).
Be sure to begin this exciting upcoming Torah study cycle from the start.
