A large team of Lubavitch Educational Center employees and volunteers recently pulled off what was surely one of Florida’s largest Melava Malkas.
During the week before the Melave Malka each boys’ class was visited by famed pop artist Yitzchok Moully, who spoke with each class about using their own personal talents and abilities to serve Hashem. The classes painted canvases and the following day participated in a silk screen workshop. The results were stunning works of art with purpose and meaning.
Motzai Shabbos arrived to a beautifully decorated area, both inside and out. The hundreds of canvases hanging in the tent was a sight to behold for the more than 750 people who attended the gathering. Not an empty seat could be found.
The program, which was for students, fathers and zaidies, opened with Rabbi Benzion Korf, the school’s headmaster, who welcomed the gathering and shared a moving story. What followed was seder niggunim with Chazan Rabbi Yossi Lebovic. Rabbi Yakov Garfinkel congratulated groups of students on their many academic and extra curricular accomplishments and achievements so far this year.
At the end of the program people remained to view the students’ artwork, of which each student was allowed to take his own home.
Much thanks and appreciation go to the principal, Mrs. Shevi Sossonko for her tireless efforts, and Rabbi Yakov Garfinkel for arranging the program. Gratitude and recognition also go to Shayna Bortunk for truly going above and beyond, Chaya Mushka Amar, Mrs. Rochel Gordon, Menachem Mendel Korf, Shauly Snovsky, Chef Isaac, and the many parent volunteers who helped set up for the large event.
In a separate program LEC’s Bais Chana High School led by Principal Mrs. Sara Rosenfeld, and program Director Mrs. Chanie Schapiro held an art day with Yitzchok Moully as well. It was a delight to the girls and truly a remarkable experience.
Special thanks also go to Lubavitch Educational Center’s PTA for their generous financial support and subsidizing the cost. The PTA is currently running their annual Chinese auction with countless prizes including one of $5,000 cash. The PTA’s success translates into our student’s success!
