On July 18, 350 people from greater Metro Detroit gathered at the Berman Theater in West Bloomfield for “An Evening with the Rebbe” hosted by Chabad-Lubavitch of Michigan.
The event marked the 23rd yahrtzeit of the Lubavitcher Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneerson. A new multimedia presentation, produced by Yuvlamedia’s Bentzi Avtzon, combined vivid images captured in rare archival film with powerful live narration, inviting the audience to experience a farbrengen (joyous gathering) not only as spectators, but also as participants.
Joanna Abramson of West Bloomfield spoke of her life-changing experience when Miriam Driker Karp invited her to attend a farbrengen decades ago at Lubavitch World Headquarters in Brooklyn, stimulating a continuing learning process.
“The local event recalled my first farbrengen experience at Purim in 1976. The atmosphere at Chabad headquarters was electrified with anticipation as the throng of Chasidim contracted to form a path welcoming the Rebbe and his entourage,” Abramson said. “He spoke without notes for hours. Between segments, the hall filled with melody as he locked his piercing gaze, nodding at each participant, to acknowledge as they raised cups with ‘l’chaim.’”
would love to hear more about this event, some more details perhaps to have it in my city
