A delegation of the EU and US Ambassadors to Moldova, led by Janis Mazeiks and Kent D. Logsdon, respectively, paid a visit to the Central Synagogue Chabad Lubavitch in Kishinev.
They were greeted by Chief Rabbi Mendel Axelrod and Shliach Chabad in Moldova, Rabbi Shmuel Zalmanov, who showed them around the synagogue and told them about its rich 135-year history.
The ambassadors expressed their admiration for the impressive work of Chabad in Moldova, which started in 1990 when Rabbi Zalmen Abelsky a’h restored Jewish life after the collapse of communism and is carried on today by the Shliach Rabbi Zushe Abelsky.
They also learned about the 30 Chanukah events that Chabad is planning in 18 communities across Moldova and thanked them for their cooperation and friendship. As a gesture of goodwill, the ambassadors also recorded a video message to wish the Moldovan Jewish community a happy and bright Chanukah celebration.
