Ephraim Schwartz, a resident of Jerusalem, has reached out to the community in a heartfelt plea for assistance in his quest to overcome the immense challenges he faces due to physical disabilities. Paralyzed on his right side and having undergone the amputation of his left leg, Schwartz finds himself in a dire situation, unable to continue on his own and seeking support from fellow Jews.
Several years ago, Schwartz’s health took a devastating turn when he began experiencing blood clots throughout his body, culminating in a severe heart attack. Unfortunately, the subsequent surgical intervention, necessitated by heart damage, resulted in an acute stroke, leaving his right side paralyzed.
The ordeal did not end there for Schwartz, as persistent blood clots led to the development of gangrene in his left leg. To save his life, doctors had no choice but to amputate the limb. Since then, Schwartz has relied on the unwavering care of his now-deceased wife, who supported him in his daily struggles. However, the loss of his beloved spouse has left Schwartz in a state of profound sorrow and isolation.
Managing the blood clots requires costly medications and blood thinners that are not covered by his healthcare plan. Despite attempts to use a prosthesis, Schwartz has encountered significant difficulties due to the incompatibility of standard options with his amputated leg, causing intense pain and discomfort.
To compound his challenges, Schwartz’s living situation exacerbates his daily struggles. Residing in a non-accessible apartment building without an elevator, he finds himself trapped within the confines of his home. The absence of wheelchair accessibility prevents him from navigating his residence independently, making routine activities like showering or getting in and out of bed arduous tasks.
After years of enduring his circumstances silently, Schwartz has mustered the courage to seek assistance, recognizing the urgent need for support. His appeal focuses on two crucial elements: acquiring a specialized prosthesis that can restore his mobility and making his home wheelchair accessible. The latter involves installing a mobile stair lift to enable him to venture outside and partake in the liberating experience of fresh air and sunlight.
“I never imagined I would find myself in a position of asking for charity,” Schwartz expressed with humility. “However, circumstances have left me no alternative. I humbly request your help in my time of need.”
Schwartz extends his deepest gratitude to those who offer their support, acknowledging the profound impact their benevolence can have on his life and the lives of others. He wishes for the continued well-being, enduring health, and boundless happiness of those who respond to his plea.
