The recently launched Kollel Ahavas Achim in Empire Shtieble in Crown Heights has returned this week following the month of Tishrei.
Beginning on Monday of this week, dozens of men gathered for daily study which includes a shiur L’iyun in Maseches Kiddushin Perek Rishon and L’girsa Perek Asara Yuchsin.
They will also learn halacha (starting with hilchos mezuza) and a short shiur on tehillim.
The first of its kind Kollel for men launched during the month of Elul to great success, with 30 men attending on its first day.
The Kollel takes place Monday through Thursday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, and is geared for all men in the community, especially working or semi-retired businessmen, who are looking to join daily learning.
The Shiur in Gemarah is given by Rabbi Shmuel Heber, a local resident and Talmid Chochom who has served as Rosh Yeshivas Tomchei Tmimim in Morristown, NJ. He will teach a blatt of Gemarah a day with the goal of completing the Masechta in 6 months.
“Now, this week after Shabbos Bereishis, when we know that we set the tone for the entire year, is the perfect time to join,” Rabbi Heber told COLlive.com. “Let’s take all the spiritual inspiration we got during Tishrei and bring it into our daily lives.”
Empire Shtiebel is the second-largest Shul in Crown Heights, following the main shul of 770 Eastern Parkway, Rabbi Heber notes, and boasts daily Minyanim from 6 am to 11 am, a Mikvah, and various Shiurim.
The Kollel has attracted a daily crowd, with participants enjoying coffee and cake as well.
“All men are welcome to join, and there’s no time better than now to begin a new year on a high note,” Rabbi Heber said.
