Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel of Chicago recently met with Rabbi Meir Chai Benhiyoun and his wife Rivka, Chabad Shluchim to Downtown Chicago, along with a delegation from their community.
The meeting was described as a warm and open one, covering a wide range of topics, including education, taxes and public safety.
The visit concluded with a Q&A session during which the Mayor shared some personal thoughts about the Jewish community and his own Jewish identity.
When asked if he preferred his past positions in Washington, DC, or currently as the Mayor of Chicago, Emanuel responded that while serving communities is always important and fulfilling, he felt that he could better affect change as the Mayor.
