Eli Amsallem, 21, HY”D

Israel Defense Forces Sergeant Major Eliyahu Chaim Amsallem, a fighter in the 97th Battalion of the Kfir Brigade, was killed in battle in the northern Gaza Strip, on Wednesday, 14 Iyar 5784.

He was 21.

His family immigrated a couple of years ago from France to the holy land of Israel. They settled in the city of Raanana and were regulars at Chabad and the Shliach Rabbi Mendel Maimon.

Eli Eliyahu Amsalem, of blessed memory, age 21, from Ra’anana, a soldier in the Netzah Yehuda Battalion, fell in combat in the Gaza sector. Amsalem was one of the subordinates of Yisrael Yudkin, of blessed memory, from the Netzah Yehuda Battalion, who also fell this morning.

His funeral will take place tomorrow, Thursday, at the military cemetery on Klausner Street in Ra’anana. He is survived by his parents, Jacques-Yitzhak and Alexandra, and a brother and sister. The entire family, which immigrated from France a few years ago,

In his youth, Eli Amsallem was active in Chabad activities and even joined 2 Cteen trips to the Rebbe in New York, which left a deep impact on him.

Amsallem was last at the Rebbe’s Ohel in Queens before the October 7 massacre and the outbreak of the Gaza War. Whenever he went, he carried with him the Dvar Malchus weekly study booklet and would learn from it whenever he was able.

Fellow soldiers who served with him mentioned his selfless care for others and his dedication to protecting the land and its people. He would also help soldiers with putting on Tefillin.

In the continued battle against the Hamas terror regime in Gaza, he was killed together his Yisroel Yudkin, 22, of Kfar Chabad, and Gideon Chay DeRowe, 33, of Tel Aviv.

He is survived by his parents Jacques (Yitzchak) and Alexandra Amsallem, a brother and a sister.

The levaya will be held on Thursday, leaving from 32 Hashmonaim Street in Ra’anana at 11:15 AM and proceeding to the cemetery in Ra’anana.
